Most Realistic Scenario
PG – Emmanuel Mudiay
SG – Kobe Bryant
SF – Tobias Harris
PF – Julius Randle
C – Ed Davis
The odds are, right now, the Lakers land with the fourth pick. With that pick, the most likely candidate right now is Mudiay, a point guard who spent the year in China playing professionally. He has some mystery surrounding him, but remains a top-level prospect for now. Once pre-draft workouts commence, his status could change.
After Mudiay, I do see the Lakers heavily pursuing Harris, whose time in Orlando seems to be coming to the end and LA could finish it with the right contract offer. As I detailed in a previous piece, it’s worth overpaying Harris now with the cap set to rise in the future.
I also see them pursuing Davis and turning down Hill’s option. Davis is a younger, more defensive version of Hill who could be had for cheaper. There’s little downside to securing him long-term this off-season.
