Lastly, we have Ed Davis, who was one of the few bright spots in last year’s nightmare season.  Ed Davis is on contract to make around 1.1 million dollars next year, but has the option to opt out of his current deal, and test free agency this summer.  Due to his breakout season, Davis could easily earn at least double that if he decides to use his player option.  Even if he opts out, the Lakers should attempt to re-sign him, as he proved to be a very effective rebounder and shot-blocker.

A back-up frontcourt of Davis and Boozer would give the Lakers reliable scoring, rim-protection, and rebounding off the bench from their big man, which very few teams can claim they have.

The Lakers are building for the future, and part of that is building a solid bench. Over the last two years, the Lakers have been a team of solid bench players that are being relied on to give starter-like production.  Not saying that Wayne Ellington, Carlos Boozer, and Ed Davis can lead a playoff-caliber bench, but if the Lakers can find a few more playmakers to lead the second unit, they can check off building a solid bench in the rebuilding to-do list.  The starting lineup, however, will be a bit more difficult.
