Lakers: 50 Greatest Players in Franchise History

20 of 51

32. Elden Campbell

Elden Campbell spent eight and a half seasons with the Lakers to begin his NBA career, starting with the team in the 1990-91 season and ultimately being traded away during the 1998-99 campaign. Campbell thrived for the Lakers during the end of one era, through a transitional period for the franchise, and at the start of another major era as a key role player as a part of the frontcourt rotation.

Overall during his time with the Lakers, Campbell averaged 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the field. However, that doesn’t fully do his body of work justice. A better indication is his productivity from 1993-97 where he averaged an impressive 13.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and two blocks for games for the Lakers as a pivotal role player during a growing period for the organization after the end of Magic’s run as the leader of the team.

Campbell’s ultimate lack of team success with the Lakers doesn’t do his resume any favors in terms of where he slots in on this list. However, the big man was a big presence for many years in a Lakers uniform and he earned his keep with the franchise, which is good enough to put him in at No. 32 in the rankings.
