31. Mychal Thompson
The Los Angeles Lakers acquired center Mychal Thompson in the middle of the 1986-87 season and he would go onto help the end of Showtime along in their quest to capture two more titles during the historic run of those teams. He would ultimately play out the rest of his career with the Lakers before retiring at the conclusion of the 1990-91 season, playing four and half season with the Lakers and making his presence felt despite no longer being in his prime.
Over his time with the Lakers, Thompson played in 335 career games with the organization and, admittedly, wasn’t the player that he was earlier in his career. Even still, the big man was a reliable, veteran presence in the post that put up solid numbers with a limited workload. In only 22.8 minutes per game, he averaged 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game over his time spent in Los Angeles, including averaging 11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game on 51.2 percent shooting as the Lakers went on to win the title in the 1987-88 season.
Thompson wasn’t an overwhelmingly great player by the time he got to Los Angeles, but his presence during those last two Showtime runs was undeniable. He was a veteran force who was productive as a secondary role player and that’s good enough to slot him in at No. 31.
