19. Happy Hairston
Finishing his eleven year career with the Los Angeles Lakers, Happy Hairston averaged a double-double for LA but more importantly, was part of the 1971-1972 team which won the NBA record best 33 straight games.
Playing behind the likes of Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Gail Goodrich and Elgin Baylor, Happy was somewhat of an afterthought but he still managed to average 13 points and 13 assists that very season.
In fact, Hairston was the second leading rebounder on that Los Angeles Laker team, trailing only Wilt the Stilt himself.
A little lesser known fact about that historic streak was that after winning 33 straight, the Lakers went on to drop four of their next six games, only to finish the season with two more amazing eight game win streaks.
Additionally, although they finished with the best record in the entire league at the end of the season, the Lakers finished with 67 wins and 15 losses, which is not even good enough for top five best single season records of all time.
That said, this team is still in the conversation for the title of best team of all time.
Standing 6’7″, 225 pounds, aside from having an excellent basketball name, the fact that Hairston was able to contribute to this Lakers record, even at the end of his career, makes him a no brainer for the top 20.
