Julius Randle Might (Somewhat) Be Getting Out of His Slump

Though there really wasn’t too much to get excited about for a Lakers team that only scored 74 points on the night, it was nice to see second-year forward Julius Randle finally come back to life. In 27 minutes of action, the big man put up 11 points and seven rebounds before ultimately fouling out. However, those are all actually incredibly positive considering what Randle has been doing lately.

In his four previous outings leading up to the matchup with Utah, Randle was a combined 3-23 from the field (not a typo). This stretch also included him getting benched late in a game and starting a “feud” with head coach Byron Scott while also including several instances where Randle looked to be unbelievably frustrated and even despondent at times.

With all of that on the minds of fans coming into the game against Utah, it was great to see Randle get some shots to fall and to see that he was at least trying to stay more active defensively. He wasn’t effective and he did foul out, but that’s better than lazy fouls or simply not doing anything at all. Hopefully this game and what Randle showed against the Jazz is a sign that his little slump is out of the way.
