Vs. Los Angeles Clippers – Jan. 7, 2006

The dynamic of the big brother and little brother between the Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers has been steadily shifting as Kobe has gotten deeper into his 20-year career. However, one of many reasons why the gap between the two teams was so wide to begin with was because of Kobe. Subsequently, Bryant had no problem burying the Clippers on multiple occasions throughout his career.

While many people will point to Kobe putting up a triple-double in the 2002 season against their in-city rivals (33 points, 12 assists, 15 rebounds) as his best performance, I have a near triple-double from the 2006 season as his best overall performance. On Jan. 7 of that season (just a couple of weeks out from Kobe dropping 81 actually) Bryant put up 50 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds on the Clippers. While it was relatively inefficient at 17-41 shooting on the night for Kobe, it was complete annihilation of the Clippers at the hands of Kobe in a winning effort.

Triple-doubles are great, but a 50-point outing where he still almost notched a triple-double is just simply absurd. He could have shot 30 percent from the floor and it still would’ve been impressive.
