Five ludicrous trades that would be amazing for the Lakers, work under the salary cap, and will never happen
The Los Angeles Lakers, despite the fact that they are going to miss the playoffs by a wide margin, figure to be at least somewhat involved in the proceedings around the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline. The Lakers are said to be sellers and could look to make moves to either clear up more cap-space or pick up draft picks and assets to be moved in the future.
The names that have been widely rumored to potentially be available are Nick Young, Lou Williams, Brandon Bass, and Roy Hibbert from the Lakers. Whether or not anything happens remains to be seen, but fans can certainly dream about the ideal scenarios that could play out.
While some people may think that the ideal scenario would include the Lakers getting a first-round draft pick or something of the sort, why not dream even bigger? Why not try to move some of the Lakers assets in exchange for superstars that would change the course of the franchise immediately?
Let’s be clear, none of these trades are ever—in a million years—going to happen. The Lakers would say yes in a heartbeat, but the other teams involved would laugh as they slammed the phone down in Mitch Kupchak’s ear. Still, what’s the hurt in dreaming and having a little bit of fun in the process? These are five ridiculous trades that are successful in ESPN’s NBA Trade Machine that would make Lakers fans ecstatic—but will never, ever work in real life.
Editor’s Note: This is all in good fun. Please do not read anything into this other than these trades being a pipe dream.
