Oklahoma. Buddy Hield. 5. player. 86. This is another pick that stays the same from version 1.0 of the 2016 NBA Mock Draft. Even after going with Tyus Jones at the end of the first round last year in the draft, many people see the Minnesota Timberwolves looking at the likes of Kris Dunn with this pick. However, I don’t think that’s the way they go and instead think they’d be better suited going after a scorer on the wing that can play right away. That archetype is basically Buddy Hield out of Oklahoma in a nutshell.

If you even loosely kept up with Hield’s exploits as a member of the Sonners throughout his senior year, you’re familiar with what he’s capable of. He’s a well-versed offensive talent that can score from virtually anywhere on the floor, create on and off of the ball, and even distribute much better than most high volume scorers in his position normally could. On top of that, he’s far from inept as a defensive player on the wing.

Hield isn’t a perfect prospect nor is he a player with a ton of upside. However, he’s a known commodity that could be a nice addition to a Timberwolves team continuing to develop into something that looks quite special in this league. As such, Hield feels like a better selection here as opposed to another point guard.
. SG
