73. Version 1.0 of our 2016 NBA Mock Draft had Kentucky combo-guard Jamal Murray going a few spots higher and that still feels like it’s in play. After a few days at the NBA scouting, it really feels like teams are going to fall in love with all of the things that Murray is able to do. Then they’re going to look at the tape again and see even more potential because this guy is going to be really, really good in the NBA.
What I love about Jamal Murray going to the Denver Nuggets is that it’s not a selection where the Nuggets would be overthinking things. Though Denver has a ton of talent at various spots on the roster and used a lottery pick last year on a guard in Emmanuel Mudiay, they aren’t in a position in terms of overall talent, success, or depth where they can really afford to be over-analyzing high draft picks. They have to look at guys who can make an impact and that’s what Murray is.

Though it will obviously be inconsistent right out of the gate, I don’t know how anyone in Denver doesn’t look at a possible backcourt rotation of Mudiay, Gary Harris, and then Murray and not think that couldn’t be quite rotation and one that could make a big impact on this league. With that in mind, this seems like a safe spot for now—at least until Murray starts shooting up mocks.
. PG/SG. Kentucky. Jamal Murray. 7. player
