There’s definitely a divided opinion in the scouting community and among many GMs coming out of the combine regarding former Maryland Terrapins big man Diamond Stone. While he showed in his lone season in College Park that he can really get it done down on the interior—particularly as an offensive presence—the big man appeared a bit hefty and unathletic at the combine.

Obviously his size and length were solid as he measured a legitimate 6-10 with a wingspan comfortably over 7-feet. However, the 12.9 percent body fat that he registered was less than ideal, the same of which can be said of his 29.5-inch max vertical leap.

However, you can’t deny his production and upside as a young 19-year-old. In his lone college season, he put up 12.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 56.8 percent from the floor, all in only 22.8 minutes per game.

There’s still development and maturity issues to address with Stone, but I think that the Hornets under Steve Clifford and, if he’s still there, Patrick Ewing would be a great place for him to fall and that he would be best set up for success in that situation.
