2. Perfect Coach

When you look at a team like the Golden State Warriors, there aren’t a whole lot of things that they don’t do well. However, one of the crowning achievements of Steve Kerr and their staff is how they’ve coached up the defense. Obviously it’s beneficial that they have some of the best and most versatile defenders in the league in their rotation, but it also has a lot to do with their schemes and how they’re able to hide sub-par defenders.

As such, the prospect of putting Kevin Love under the tutelage of a coach raised in the Warriors system is quite intriguing. Love’s lack of effectiveness on that end of the floor is no secret at this point in his career, but he can be hidden in the right system.

Obviously a big part of that system working and being able to hide Love’s deficiencies depends on perimeter defenders being able to contain their men and not rely on the frontcourt to make up for them—which would obviously place a lot of responsibility on Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell to continue their development as defenders. However, it would be a good look for both Love and the Lakers to have the talented forward playing under Walton in this regard.
