2. Dorian Finney-Smith – SF – Florida
Considering that the Lakers had the second worst record in the NBA last season, the safe assumption would be to say that there were quite a few things that they didn’t do well in the 2015-16 season. However, one area of execution that they struggled noticeably virtually every single time that they took the floor was on the defensive side of the ball on the perimeter. That’s an area they have to be working this summer, but also an area where they need to bring in guys to help.
One such undrafted player that might be able to fill that void to a certain degree is Dorian Finney-Smith out of Florida. While his defense was inconsistent throughout his tenure with the Gators and while he never fully panned out like many had hoped he would as an overall prospect, Finney-Smith has the length and athletic tools to where he could be molded into a quality defender that can guard a number of positions on the perimeter.
What’s better is that his physical tools also lend themselves to Finney-Smith also potentially being able to contribute in an offense that’s highly functional. That’s not the Lakers in their current state, but it could be them with some development and learning under Luke Walton. Subsequently, the Florida product would be a nice add to see how he melds with the rest of the young core.
