4. Troy Daniels (Restricted)
Anyone who watched the Lakers last season can join me in lamenting the fact that the three-point shooting was absolutely abysmal. Even with Clarkson noticeably improving in this regard, it’s not a great sign when your team’s most “reliable” three-point shooting threat is Nick Young playing sparingly off of the bench. Enter Troy Daniels of the Charlotte Hornets.
While Daniels isn’t necessarily an all-around threat in that his defense leaves a lot to be desired, his ball handling isn’t tremendous, and he’s quite undersized as a shooting guard at just 6-4, the 24-year-old out of VCU can absolutely shoot the daylights out of the basketball. For his three seasons in the league featuring scattered playing time at three separate stops, Daniels has converted 43 percent of his threes. In 43 games for Charlotte last year, Daniels converted on a ridiculous 48.4 percent of his 122 threes that he took on the year.
The Lakers signing Daniels to play 30 minutes per night would be a sign that things have gone horribly awry in Los Angeles this offseason in free agency. However, if the organization is wisely looking to spend a low amount of their cap room to try and lure away a restricted free agent that can be an offensive weapon as a shooter, Troy Daniels is a guy to watch.
