3. Los Angeles Clippers vs Los Angeles Lakers — December 25, 2016

Since acquiring Chris Paul via trade in 2011, the Los Angeles Clippers have had their way with the Lakers. The Clippers have a 16-3 record against the Lakers over that span. They also currently boast an 11-game winning streak over their in-city counterparts. Thanks a lot, basketball reasons.

The Clippers had an impressive offseason, even though they too whiffed on Kevin Durant. The team managed to sign Raymond Felton, Marreese Speights, and former Laker Brandon Bass. Another interesting subplot to this game will be the match up between Paul and Russell. Paul is currently averaging 22 points and seven assists against the young guard after the youngster’s rookie season. Russell will need to slow down CP3 if the Lakers are to have any chance against the Clippers.

In the hearts and minds of Lakers fans, the Clippers will always be seen as the Los Angeles little brothers. That just isn’t the case on the court however. Simply put, the Clippers have owned the Lakers recently. Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan have made a habit of bullying the Lakers.

Subsequently, Russell, Clarkson, and company are eager to regain some competitiveness against their Staples Center co-tenants. After being embarrassed by the Clippers in last year’s Christmas Day showcase, this will be a good chance for them to finally fight back. The Lakers and Clippers play each other four times this year, with Christmas Day being the first. A victory in this game will go a long way for the confidence and pride for the young core.
