Lakers: Best and Worst of 2016
The worst: Nick Young
Most fans were not team Swaggy P at the beginning of the year, and it was easy to see why. Not only was he not very good on the court, but he was also causing problems off the court.
The now famous “D’Angelo Russell” incident reportedly divided the team and made a bad season worse. Yes, Russell could have not recorded an extremely private conversation, but you know what else would have helped? If Young didn’t cheat on his now former fiance.
Young clearly loves the Los Angeles lifestyle and it is his hometown, but the bright lights can get a little much sometimes, and it looked like that was the case for Young last season.
The best: Nick Young (?)
How can someone that never left be “back”? That is a question for LA’s favorite uncle, Uncle P. Swaggy P is dead and Uncle P is everything fans could have asked for and more. He went from future CBA All-Star to starting shooting guard of the Los Angeles Lakers almost over night.
Even in his best days with LA, he was never a starter. Now, he’s one of the best starting shooting guards in the NBA. Yeah, I said it. Destroy my mentions (@RadRivas).
Young has the second highest 3-point field goal percentage IN THE LEAGUE among guards attempting at least 6 3-pointers a game, shooting an excellent 42.8 percent from the field.
He’s even flirting with a 50/40/90 split this season, which would put him in a club of elites that no Laker has ever been a part of. Unless you count Steve Nash. You shouldn’t if you do.
Is he still a negative box plus-minus? Yes, but even his defense have improved dramatically. So much that he is one of the better defenders on the team, which isn’t saying a whole lot, but is still an improvement nonetheless.
Whether or not the Lake Show keeps Young past this season is unknown, but I invite fans to enjoy the Uncle P show while they can. It’s a good one.
