With the 25th pick in the draft, the Orlando Magic will be taking a player to help upgrade their backcourt. One of the hottest prospects emerging as we approach the draft is guard Derrick White from Colorado.
Despite barely being recruited and starting his college career at a Division II school, White transferred to Colorado for his senior season. While playing in the Pac-12, White was one of the best players in a loaded conference.
Last season, White averaged 18.1 points, 4.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game. At about 6’5”, White has some good size at the guard position, and he knows how to use it well on both ends of the court. As an offensive player, White was able to shoot over 50 percent from the field last season. On defense, averaging over one block and one steal per game is pretty impressive. Overall, there isn’t much on the court that White can’t do.
White would give the Magic a player that can provide some offense off the bench behind Elfrid Payton and Evan Fournier. Also, his ability to play defense should translate nicely to the NBA. As his stock continues to rise, the Magic would be getting a solid player in this spot.
