Because of the trade with the Boston Celtics a few years ago, the Nets will be selecting 27th with what should have been the Celtics’ pick. While it’s not the ideal scenario, the Nets will at least have the opportunity to get a talented player.
With the 27th overall pick, the Nets will be selecting Michigan forward D.J. Wilson. After barely playing in his first two seasons at Michigan, Wilson ended up having a strong third season for the Wolverines.
Last season, Wilson averaged 30.4 minutes, 11.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. Toward the end of the season, Wilson really started to play for Michigan as they went on their impressive run after the plane scare.
In the Big 10 Conference Tournament, Wilson totaled 26 points and eight rebounds in a big win against a talented Purdue team. In the NCAA Tournament, Wilson continued to play well, as he totaled 19, 17, and 12 points in three games.
At 6’10”, it would have been nice to see Wilson have some better rebounding numbers in college. However, he is quite skilled on the offensive end of the court. As he transitions to the NBA, Wilson has the potential to be a solid stretch power forward, and possibly a small forward if he can get a bit quicker.
