High Floor
When you are selecting this high in the NBA Draft, you are hoping to hit with a star. But, it is tough to find a star. Instead, you are hoping that you do not select a player that turns into a bust. This is where a player’s floor comes into play.
Over the years we have seen plenty of tantalizing prospects flame out. Guys with elite athleticism that look like can’t miss prospects, but don’t pan out because they were unable to put it all together. Some people have high ceilings and really low floors; those are risky picks. Jackson does not fall into that category.
Jackson is arguably the safest player in this draft. When you are capable of playing defense the way that Jackson is, teams will always find a spot on the roster for you. Jackson’s defense and athleticism are both elite level, giving him something to fall back on.
The floor for Jackson is quite high. He is unlikely to be a bust given the skills that he already possesses. He has a very high ceiling, which is what makes him a potential top pick. But, having a high floor is also nice to see.
If Jackson is going to reach that ceiling, he has some areas to improve in, which takes us to the last reason to select Jackson.
