Justin Holiday

Another player the Lakers may have on their radar is 6-feet-6 inch shooting guard Justin Holiday. Holiday played in all 82 games for the New York Knicks this past season, averaging 7.7 points and 2.7 rebounds, while playing roughly 20 minutes a game.

Holiday is not an elite three-point shooter as he shot 35.5% from range this year on just over three attempts per game. A 34% career three-point shooter at the age of 28, these percentages are not likely to improve significantly as he has less potential for growth.

However, where Holiday really makes his mark is on the defensive end. In the 2016-2017, the guard held opponents overall field goal percentage to 1.7% below the average. These numbers could have been even better if not for the fact that Holiday allowed the opposition to score slightly better than league average from more than 15 feet from the hoop, as well as on three-pointers. This said, Holiday excels when defending between 5-9 feet from the basket, as opponents shot 5.4% worse when guarded by Holiday from this distance.

Therefore, Holiday has shown an ability to defend, particularly from close two-point range, which may prove useful for a Lakers team that struggles on the defensive end. He is also a passable three-point threat on the offensive end, making him a potential three and D player which the team is currently in need of.
