Star Potential

There is no doubting that Lonzo Ball is a top prospect heading into the draft. When you are selecting as high in the draft as the Lakers are, you want to give yourself the best chance of landing a star player. With Markelle Fultz more than likely going to the Philadelphia 76ers, Ball presents the next best option for the Lakers.

Ball has the makeup of a star. While his father, LaVar Ball, is extremely outspoken, Lonzo seems a little more reserved. For example, his Foot Locker commercial he took part in. He doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously and rolls with the punches.

On the court, Ball carries himself with a quiet confidence and plenty of poise. He has all of the qualities you are looking for in a leader on the court, which the point guard is supposed to be. Another thing that working in Ball’s favor is Chad Ford’s tier system.

Ford began the tier system in 2009. Since then, only eight players, Blake Griffin, John Wall, Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid, Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Ben Simmons have landed in the first tier. This year, Fultz and Ball are both in the first tier.

While Simmons has yet to play, all the other players there have looked like stars when healthy. Ball could be the next of the bunch to become a star player as well.
