The Detroit Pistons landed a solid player at No. 12 in Duke shooting guard, Luke Kennard. Kennard excels in many of the areas that the Pistons were hoping to shore up this offseason, namely three-point shooting.
Kennard is one of the top-three shooters in this year’s draft class. He has a deft touch not only from the perimeter but can score in the mid-range as well. His offensive game is very advanced scoring the ball, but he is also a capable playmaker.
Kennard can handle the ball and distribute out of the pick-and-roll. His basketball IQ is very high, which helps him overcome his lack of length and athleticism. His playmaking skills will help the Pistons right away, as Reggie Jackson is more of a scoring point guard.
Kennard’s toughness is something that teams love as well. While he isn’t the greatest athlete or strongest player, he makes up for it with his intangibles and IQ. He is a good fit for the Pistons given his style of play. Stan Van Gundy will love having him around. He also gives Detroit some insurance in case Kentavious Caldwell-Pope leaves as a free agent.
