Great Fit

Lopez should be an excellent fit in head coach Luke Walton’s system which has a strong emphasis on spreading the floor. His excellence as a three-point shooter should open up driving lanes for Brandon Ingram and Julius Randle.

Lopez should also be a great mentor for the budding Ivica Zubac as the two have a similar style of play. Another overlooked factor is that Lopez is an L.A. native who will take pride in playing for his hometown team; Lopez and his twin brother Robin both attended Stanford University as well.

Not to mention, Lopez is beloved by his teammates and is by all accounts a great locker room guy. Look for him to be rejuvenated playing for a franchise with a winning tradition and a flat out more talented roster.

I know fans are reeling from Russell being traded away, but the fact of the matter is that Lopez is a better player than him RIGHT NOW and it isn’t even close. Sure Russell was impressive in spurts and could develop into an All-Star, but until he actually plays up to his potential I consider this trade a win for the Lakers.
