Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings usually can’t get out of their own way. They are constantly making head scratching moves and are the butt end of plenty of jokes. But, the night of the 2017 NBA Draft was not one of those nights.
The Kings had an excellent night and it got started with the selection of Kentucky point guard, De’Aaron Fox, fifth overall. The Kings now have the point guard they have desperately need looking for. The Kings then had the 10th pick, which they traded to the Portland Trail Blazers and turned into two late selections.
With the 15th pick, the Kings took North Carolina small forward, Justin Jackson. They also landed the 20th pick, which they used on Duke center, Harry Giles. For a team that has been stuck in the doldrums as long as the Kings, these were excellent selections. The good night continued in the second round, where the Kings took Kansas point guard, Frank Mason.
These selections will all help the Kings change the culture of the organization. If Giles can regain his form after an injury-riddled season, the Kings have gotten the steal of the draft. Giles was the top rated high school player and projected to go in the top-two of early mock drafts. If he comes close to that with the Kings, they are in business.
While fans were disappointed to see DeMarcus Cousins traded, the Kings future is now very bright. They could have their whole starting lineup for the future acquired from that trade, as Fox, Buddy Hield, Jackson, Skal Labissiere, and Giles could be their starting lineup for the future.
