Honorable Mentions

While those three players were the ones that stood out the most, there were a few other players that are notable. While not the stars of this championship team, their performances should be recognized as well.

Matt Thomas

Unless you watched Iowa State basketball, you probably didn’t know who Matt Thomas was coming into the Summer League. Now, you probably know him as one the best shooters of the Summer League.

After playing four seasons with the Cyclones, Thomas went undrafted and got the opportunity to play for the Lakers in the Las Vegas Summer League. He didn’t get to play much before ankle injuries sidelined both Josh Hart and PJ Dozier. Thomas stepped in and caught fire from behind the 3-point line since.

He went 14/16 from three in the past three games. His shooting numbers and field goal percentage has been off-the-charts. Every time he shoots, it’s probably going in. His performance in Las Vegas has been great and he should get at least a hard look for a two-way contract from teams.

Travis Wear

Travis Wear was very solid for the Lakers in the Summer League. While his numbers don’t pop off, he looked like a consistent shooter and able to get his own shot.

Wear always made seemed to make a timely three and played well with Ball and Alex Caruso giving him good looks.

He had one highlight play from an alley-oop slam from Caruso versus the Kings.

While Wear wasn’t a standout, he seems deserving of an honorable mention.
