Derrick Rose

The Lakers are in the market for a backup point guard. They have looked into some other options, such as Rajon Rondo, but have missed out. With the need for a backup point guard still there, the Lakers have talked to Derrick Rose.

Rose and the Lakers had a meeting earlier this week in Los Angeles. Rose has come had a tumultuous career. He has experienced the highs of being one of the best players in the NBA, winning MVP, and the lows of injuries. Rose has worked himself back and had a pretty good season with the New York Knicks last year.

Rose averaged 18 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in 32.5 minutes per game. Rose struggled with some issues, such as going AWOL and injuries. But, when on the court, he did produce some pretty solid numbers.

But, Rose has to accept where he is in his career right now. He will not be getting near a max deal, let alone a long-term one. He will probably have to settle for a backup job, as many teams have filled their point guard voids already. Rose can produce some, but is it a good fit for the Lakers?

There are positives to bringing him in. He would give the Lakers a scoring option off their bench and provide a mentor for Ball, who could use some refining in the pick-and-roll and in attacking the basket. The Lakers will have to see if adding Rose is worth the risk. He would help fill a need, but does the reward outweigh the risk for the Lakers in this case?
