The Lakers are at the point in the offseason where they are evaluating their roster. They see where they have a surplus of players and where they could use some help. If they decide that they only need mentors at the end of the bench, there aren’t many better available for that role than Joel Anthony.

Anthony never put up eye-popping stats, but he is the quintessential veteran. He was always ready when called upon. He would set a great example for the young Lakers to follow in how to carry themselves as professionals and become NBA players. The teams that Anthony has been apart of says a lot, as he spent seven seasons with the Miami Heat and last season with the San Antonio Spurs.

With the Lakers, Anthony would be a great veteran for the younger guys to lean on. The Lakers have some young big men that could use some tutelage. Brook Lopez should help in that area as well, but Anthony has something that Lopez doesn’t; championship rings.

Anthony has seen how a winning team operates. He was a part of two championship teams with the Heat, appearing in 66 total playoff games. That is something the Lakers roster lacks, as Luol Deng is the only player with much playoff experience with 62 games; Lopez has 13.

Anthony wouldn’t be counted on to play much. He played only 137 minutes in the regular season and playoffs for the Spurs last season. But, the experience he would bring would be a great addition to the Lakers.
