Los Angeles Lakers: 3 takeaways from win against Phoenix Suns
By Zain Danani
Jordan Clarkson & Corey Brewer
As previously mentioned, the stars for the Lakers did not show up this game. Much of the load was carried by the bench – more specifically Jordan Clarkson and Corey Brewer.
Jordan Clarkson is arguably having the best season of his career. He is averaging 14.8 points – second highest of his career – and shooting 50.3 percent from the field – a career-high. Although these numbers do not seem amazing, they are remarkable considering that he is only playing 21 minutes per game – his career-low.
Clarkson scored a season-high 25 points against the Suns and shot an extremely efficient 57.9 percent from the floor. Additionally, he only played 26 minutes. If JC keeps up his superior play do not be surprised to see him as a Sixth Man of the Year frontrunner.
Aside from Clarkson, Corey Brewer was also a huge piece in the win. He also recorded his season-high in points – 13 points – and shot 71.4 percent from the floor. Although Brewer only logged in one steal, his constant hustle and intensity was on full display – especially in tight situations.
Let’s hope the Lakers can keep up their defensive intensity and bench production on the road back to .500. Tune in on Wednesday as they take on the Philadelphia 76ers at STAPLES Center.
