Los Angeles Lakers: 3 takeaways from loss against Los Angeles Clippers

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
A few weeks ago it seemed as though KCP’s $18 million contract was a bit too much and impossible of being renewed. This week, however, the story has changed. After two strong consecutive games with 20+ points in each, Caldwell-Pope looked to continue his hot streak against the Clips.
The fifth-year pro did not disappoint as he finished the night with 29 points, six rebounds, and three steals. KCP also knocked down a team-best five 3-point field goals. Although he did not shoot amazingly – 42.9 percent – his presence was felt and very much needed on the floor.
Kentavious started the game red-hot with 16 first quarter points and 20 first-half points. Unfortunately, the same could not be said about the second half. His early efforts, however, singlehandedly brought the team back into the game as the Lakers found themselves down by nine with five minutes left in the first quarter.
With an average of 23.3 points while shooting 49.1 percent from the floor and 54.2 percent from deep over the last three games, the Lakers will probably continue to depend on KCP on the offensive end. Also, do not be surprised if his strong play continues and brings him under consideration to be brought back to the team next year.
