Los Angeles Lakers: Lessons from failed super team, longtime rival
Los Angeles Needs to Continue to Build Around Ball
Boston has already built around its point guard of the future. Kyrie Irving is surrounded by All-Star talents in Gordon Hayward and Al Horford and great role players. On the other end, the Celtics have hit home runs with the emergences of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The Celtics have veteran talent, and at the same time have young players to be excited about.
Los Angeles also needs its point guard of the future to show his talent. To excel, Lonzo Ball needs to have sharpshooters around him. Adding someone such as J.J. Redick could help the Lakers out of their three-point and free-throw shooting woes this season.
Adding personnel like Paul George or LeBron James would be confusing. The forward position would be logjammed, and the Lakers would be jam-packed to the point that players might complain about playing time. The free agent that I would mostly consider is DeMarcus Cousins.
Brook Lopez doesn’t look like he will stay in Los Angeles long-term. Cousins is the best center in the NBA and is capable of dominating defenses.
Right now, Los Angeles is faced in a conundrum. January does have tough matchups, most specifically against the Thunder, Spurs, and Raptors, but it looks like an easy month to go against.
