Los Angeles Lakers: Lonzo Ball has emerged out of nowhere

It looks like the Los Angeles Lakers’ future franchise point guard has finally turned himself around after a rough start to the season.

A rough shoulder injury for Lonzo Ball healed up just in time for him to help the Los Angeles Lakers snap their nine-game losing streak. It became enough for his flamboyant father to utter words of hate upon the franchise he plays for. Ball played the controversy down but didn’t defend his coach.

The media have stayed away from the family as a result. The San Antonio Spurs were hampered with injuries from Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, and Tony Parker. The Lakers took the initiative and got the victory for their third straight win.

Ball scored 18 points and shot a career-high 63 percent from the floor, per ESPN’s Stats & Info. It’s a start to what could be a great turnaround for the young rookie.

Earlier in the campaign, president of the Lakers operations, Magic Johnson, called for a “shot doctor” to work with the team’s shooting woes. Against the Spurs, the Lakers only shot 41.4 percent overall with their free throws again lacking, but Lonzo was a bright spot in the win.

Ball managed to control the pace of the game. The Lakers finished with more assists, totaling 22 compared to 21 for the Spurs Ball had 6 assists in total.

It is no secret that Ball creates more opportunities for his teammates. Brandon Ingram benefited the most at 26 points. Lonzo Ball was also able to help the team spark a 13-0 run that essentially ended the game.

In his return from injury, Ball has averaged 12 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. The team has been much better with him on the floor, accumulating a plus/minus of +37. Lonzo has also averaged 42.9 percent from the floor, a new high considering he’s only shot 34.8 percent before the Spurs game.

An easy schedule awaits the Lakers. It may be Lonzo Ball’s time to show us why he was so highly praised in his UCLA days.
