Travis Wear shows potential
Lakers forward Travis Wear joined the squad originally on a 10-day contract. After being called up from the G-League, Wear has shown he may have a future with the team. Known in the G-League for his 3-point shooting, Wear has proven that his skills translate to the NBA level. Since joining the team, he’s been a reliable producer in limited minutes.
In 10 games for the Lakers, Wear has averaged 4.8 points and 2.2 rebounds while only playing 12.1 minutes. According to ESPN, he has shot an impressive 40 percent from distance, proving that he can be a reliable shooter off the bench.
To gauge his production if he were given more minutes, Basketball-Reference shows that his Per 36 minute averages are 14.3 points and 6.5 boards. The Lakers rely heavily on 3-point shooting in their offense. Expect them to explore the option of bringing Wear back on a cheap deal for next season. Getting competent in-house talent for less money should be an attractive option for L.A. This way they can pursue max-level free agents but still round out their roster this off-season. Travis Wear can be that cheap role player that the team needs.
