Texas A&M F, DJ Hogg

Texas A&M made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. DJ Hogg will be looking to ride that momentum into the draft process, as he declared as a junior and hired an agent, so he will be unable to return to school.

His decision to leave Texas A&M is a peculiar one. He showed some development in his junior season from his sophomore season, but not enough that would warrant him being guaranteed a selection in the 2018 NBA Draft. He was also suspended for three games for violating team rules, which was a reason the Aggies went into a tailspin at the beginning of conference play.

What teams will like about Hogg is his size. He is listed at 6’7″ and 215 pounds, which is the kind of frame that can be versatile in the NBA. With positionless basketball becoming popular, players of Hogg’s ilk are popular. He has the size and shooting ability to develop into a 3-and-D kind of player, as he knocked down 37.8 percent of his 3-point attempts last season.

Consistency is something Hogg lacks offensively His jump shot isn’t overly consistent, and he sometimes settles too often for jumpers. Hogg isn’t the most athletically gifted player either, so he struggles sometimes to create easy offense for himself.

There is a chance Hogg sneaks into the second round, but at No. 47, it is unlikely the Lakers pull the trigger at that point. Breaking into the Lakers’ roster on the wing will not be easy with their targets in free agency and the players they already have in place.
