Los Angeles Lakers: Why a youth movement should be embraced
Lonzo Ball
We all know the level of criticism that Lonzo Ball received this year was a little excessive, however, there is room to be optimistic about his development. When you look at his overall stat line this season of 10.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 7.2 assists, it looks solid. On the surface, that seems pretty good but most people automatically point to his poor 30 percent from the 3-point line or the fact that a lot of times he was passive and unaggressive during games.
These are things that he will obviously get better at along with getting stronger, working on his pick and roll, and balancing when to be a facilitator and when to be a scorer. If Lonzo can correct these things during the offseason, then he has a chance to become one of the most complete players in the league.
I feel that in today’s basketball world the best way to win games is to make great reads and to make as few mistakes in the game as humanly possible. At the end of the day, if you are not able to apply the gameplan onto the court, and you couple that with making mistakes such as turnovers or missing a defensive assignment, then you are not going to win many games.
Lonzo Ball is a player with a very high IQ. He can efficiently run a team and can make sure that the gameplan is executed properly. His versatility leads to him affecting the game in every area of the stat sheet.
I hear the term Swiss Army Knife get tossed around the league today and I definitely think that Lonzo Ball fits that description perfectly. That is why he is just the first block to building a championship team.
