Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Mitchell Robinson being seriously considered in 2018 NBA Draft

2. C, Mitchell Robinson

Mitchell Robinson is one of the most intriguing prospects in this year’s draft class. Robinson has lottery talent but didn’t play basketball last year.

Robinson was committed to play collegiately at Western Kentucky as a five-star recruit. However, he never ended up playing there. Instead, he decided to focus on his NBA future and not play in college. It was a risky decision, but Mitchell should still be selected in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft.

While Mitchell has not played in over a year, the potential is there. Mitchell is athletically gifted and can be a difference maker on both ends of the court. He has range out to the 3-point line and his size and arm length make him a gifted rebounder and rim protector.

Mitchell has looked great in workout videos, but there are questions as to how he will look in game action since he has sat out. There is some work to do as he is a raw prospect lacking reps. However, had Robinson played at Western Kentucky last season, he would have an excellent chance of being selected in the lottery.

Robinson has the body and skill set worthy of a first-round draft pick. Center is the only spot the Lakers have yet to really commit assets to, as second-round picks Ivica Zubac and Thomas Bryant are the only centers currently on the roster. Mitchell has a higher ceiling than both of them and would be a great fit for the current landscape of the Lakers given his talents and strengths.
