No. 3: Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk

The Lakers landed Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft. Los Angeles used the No. 47 overall pick. It was a selection that was thought highly of at the time and makes even more sense now.

With LeBron James on the roster, the Lakers desperately need more shooting and floor spacing. Los Angeles ranked second to last in the NBA in 3-point shooting percentage and tied for 19th in makes per game. Those are numbers that will have to be improved, and Mykhailiuk should help that.

Svi was a 40.9 percent shooter from 3-point range in his four years at Kansas. That is the best skill that he brings to the table. The summer league will be a time for him to work on other areas of his game.

Defensively, he could struggle given his negative wingspan. Despite being 6’8”, Mykhailiuk has a wingspan under 6’6”. That could cause some difficulties for him at the next level after he played some power forward at Kansas. With the Lakers, he will probably play more shooting guard and small forward, where his athleticism will be tested.

Svi has better athleticism than people give him credit for. However, his wingspan could cause some problems as he will find it more difficult to get his shots off against some defenders. It will be something to watch for in the summer league as his shooting will be how he gets on the court in the early going.
