Summer 2019 possibilities
The Lakers have put themselves in position to sign a max player next summer by offering one-year contracts to multiple players such as Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee.
Klay Thompson has been in the mix of potential players the Lakers may try to land next summer. There have been other All-Stars included in these conversations such as Kawhi Leonard and DeMarcus Cousins.
Leonard has been the most likely candidate to eventually don purple and gold due to his California roots. The fact that he made his desire to be in L.A. known heightens the chances of this becoming a reality.
The Lakers and San Antonio Spurs had conversations a couple of weeks ago that surrounded a trade in which Leonard would become a Laker. Reportedly the Spurs wanted a bit too much for the Lakers’ liking and the discussion eventually came to a halt.
As much as fans may want Leonard to be a Laker for this upcoming season, it’s not worth trading for him now. The Lakers have young talent with star potential and this upcoming season will be a chance to see who has taken their game to the next level.
Although Cousins could join the Lakers, it seems like there are other players the Lakers desire to have a bit more, such as Thompson.
