2. Lakers have financial flexibility
With all the one year deals the Lakers put on the books this year, they have a plethora of cap space available opening up next year. This gives them the possibility of adding another top-tier player, potentially two if the cards fall into place.
With Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, and several other big names on top of that, the Lakers are in prime position to bring in the talent that would allow LeBron James to “relax” more during the regular season.
If you add one or two big names to the current Lakers young core of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Josh Hart, LeBron will have a team stacked with talent in the twilight of his career.
Even if the Lakers are not able to snag any big fish of the 2019 free agent class, the cap flexibility will still be there. In addition, the young core still under contract for the 2019-2020 season.
All signs point to LeBron potentially having the most help he has ever had come summer 2019. This is all the more reason to go all out this season and help the young core gain invaluable experience.
