Storyline Three: Will Lakers stick to plan?

The Lakers were under some pressure this offseason to capitalize on the cap space they created. Magic Johnson went as far as saying he would step down if they didn’t land a superstar. Johnson won’t have to step down, as LeBron James signed with the team. A second max player did not join him this offseason.

Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler both became available this offseason, much like Paul George did last year. Again, like with George, Los Angeles stuck to their guns, as they did not part with any of their young core this offseason. Will they remain steadfast in holding onto the youngsters?

Winning cures all in sports. Patience is needed for things to click in Los Angeles, but will they afford themselves the time necessary? If more superstar level players become available at the trade deadline, will Johnson and Pelinka stick to what they have been doing and not part with future assets?

James has said he likes the plan that was presented to him, but will he be okay waiting for the young players to develop or another superstar to be added? Los Angeles needs to stick to the course and let things play out. They could have that second superstar level player already on the roster if they allow things to develop.
