3. Finally this 3-point situation…
The Lakers shot poorly on Thursday, making a putrid 7-of-30 from the land of plenty, which included missing the first 15 shots. There does not need to be a repeat performance with this bunch. The Rockets base their entire offense around it. Teams need to be able to knock down threes just to be competitive.
LeBron James, Brandon Ingram, Lance Stephenson, Kyle Kuzma and Lonzo Ball combined to shoot 2-of-22 collectively for the game. I realize that the NBA requires 3-point shooting, but you have to know when it is not your night.
If the shots are not falling, adjustments need to be made. Long misses lead to long rebounds. Long rebounds lead to fast breaks. The Lakers do not want to get in a track meet with the Rockets.
Josh Hart will be important for the Lakers no matter if he starts (Which he needs to do!) or comes off the bench. Plus they need a repeat performance of this…
Hart shot 3-of-5 from the 3-point line, far and away the Lakers most consistent shooter. Lonzo Ball and Rajon Rondo do not have to shoot lights out from behind the arc, but they have to look to shoot in this game. If they don’t, they will hamstring the offense and hurt their playmaking opportunities for other players. I could talk about Kentavious Caldwell-Pope…but why?
