Los Angeles Lakers: 4 Takeaways from the win against Suns
By Ronald Agers
4) Hollywood Drama is Coming?
Brandon Ingram to his credit was very remorseful about the incident on Saturday night. Rajon Rondo well, not so much. But deep down I bet they had kept their cools at this moment because potentially BOTH players could easily lose their starting positions. Now do you see what the piece means.
Now, thanks to Brandon Ingram blowing his stack, he’s suspended. While he’s gone, the Lakers have found out that Kyle Kuzma is a better fit playing with LeBron James playing off the ball.
The fact was shown clearly in the preseason. Ingram was a better player with the ball in his hands than without. Even in the Houston game before the incident, he was uneven with his play. Now everyone can see the difference. Kuzma saw the opportunity and took it.
Kyle Kuzma is a better off the ball player because of his cuts to the basket and also his decision making. Plus he is physically stronger and can guard the opposing team’s back line. Ingram is too small. The San Antonio game was Kuzma’s coming out party that had to gain the confidence of LeBron James.
At one time, Ingram probably was the young guy that the Lakers would not part with under any circumstance. BOY has that changed! Kuzma has inserted himself as the untouchable young player and if this keeps up, Ingram could be a piece that could be moved if some guy in Toronto decides he won’t resign and want to come to the Lakers. Now Ingram may get his starting spot back which would send Hart back to the bench which is not a bad thing. Hart plays hard…no matter when he gets in the game. However, if Ingram doesn’t come to play every night, Walton now has options. Ingram’s leash just got a lot shorter.
Now for Rondo…
Lake Show Life is efforting a in depth piece on what Rajon Rondo is doing to his career with all that has gone on in the last few days. But let’s get started here. Rondo blew it. His starting spot is gone…finished…finito…strike three…out! Outside of injury there is no way Rondo gets his starting spot back. Even worse for Rondo, Lance Stephenson destroyed the Suns as the backup point guard! Remember, Rondo is playing for his next contract. Doesn’t look good losing your spot to a second year player in regular circumstances. The way Rondo lost his is a cautionary tale.
Now everyone is watching around the NBA to see how Rondo will react to his potential benching or even losing his spot in the rotation. Will he accept the demotion for the good of the team or will he destroy the locker room on out the door? Boy is this going to be good. One thing about the Lakers, the articles write themselves with this bunch.
Finally we all need to give a birthday shout out to Teddy.

He is six years old and nobody came to his birthday party! But the Phoenix Suns found out about it and threw a celebration for him. Folks this is so cool. All NBA teams do things like this. My mother and youngest son’s birthday is on the same day and the Charlotte Hornets did some really nice things for them. All NBA teams celebrate birthdays. If you give them a heads up, they really take care of you. This is what the NBA is all about Happy Birthday Teddy!
