– Provides quality depth
Even though the Lakers having a good record, they have been tested this season. Both Brandon Ingram and Rajon Rondo have missed a good amount of time. Despite the Lakers having to deal with injuries, they have been able to survive because of the depth they have.
While the Lakers didn’t sign a second star to play alongside James, they did add a lot of players that are capable of being in the rotation. One of the players that they brought in was KCP. Even though adding a second star with James was the plan, the Lakers were able to add a lot of depth to their roster this summer. Getting veterans to come on one-year deals certainly paid dividends for the Lakers, as depth is very important in the Western Conference.
With all of the injuries that they have suffered this season, that depth has been called upon. In the extremely tough Western Conference, it is important to have quality depth, as one loss can be the difference between being a playoff team, or looking from the outside. Even though KCP hasn’t been in a starting role this season, he is a starting caliber player coming off the bench. That is a very valuable weapon to have.
