2. Acquiring Anthony Davis is not a slam dunk
This has been our pipe dream (or one of them) for a little while now, right? Anthony Davis saying peace out to the French Quarter and making a new home somewhere in Brentwood or Bel Air.
Well, I hate to break it to Laker Nation, but the chances right now of getting him via trade seem slim to none.
This could always change, of course, if he demands a trade and says that if he’s not traded he’ll simply leave New Orleans as a free agent in the summer of 2020 and join the Lakers.
But even then they’ll be obstacles preventing him from donning the purple and gold.
I’m sure the Pelicans will demand a king’s ransom in exchange for Davis, just as the Spurs reportedly did for Kawhi Leonard. Does anyone really think it would be wise to give up Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and Lonzo Ball (and maybe also Josh Hart) to get him, leaving an extremely top-heavy roster that may not have the cap space to fill out the rest of the roster with anyone but elderly players on their last legs who won’t fit into the Lakers’ fast break style of play?
Also, just about every other team would get in on the Anthony Davis sweepstakes. You can make a case that the Boston Celtics would be better equipped than us to surrender enough assets for him without gutting their team.
