4. He helps two of the Laker’s weakest points; 3-point shooting and free throw shooting.
It’s no secret that the Lakers have struggled at both the free throw line and the 3-point line. Heading into the All-Star Break, they’re ranked dead last in free throw percentage at 68.7% and 27th in 3-point percentage. Those numbers are simply not acceptable for this team, and as a result, have already lost a number of close games this season thanks to these shortcomings.
Although adding Klay Thompson may not solve the problem entirely, he will certainly help a Laker team that’s desperate for any semblance of reliable shooting from beyond the arc and at the line.
On the year, Klay is averaging 39.6% from the 3-point line, and 84.8% from the free-throw line, and should the Lakers acquire him this offseason, he would easily become the best shooter at both of these spots.
Plus, maybe he can teach Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram a thing or two when it comes to free throws and 3-pointers.
