What going to happen for the next 18 games?
The two things that Los Angeles Lakers fans will be asking is, will Luke Walton be fired and will LeBron James shut it down for the season.
Let’s take care of the Luke Walton question first.
Luke Walton will not be fired in-season. Does not make sense at this point. The Lakers should have made the move a month ago if they were going to. Plus there really is no self-respecting head coach that is going to take this Titanic ship with the band playing in waist deep water without a guaranteed chance next year. Perfect example of what I am talking about.
Think Larry Drew of the Cleveland Cavaliers who replaced Tyronn Lue, another rumored candidate to take Luke Walton job next season.
But don’t fret Lakers fans, the countdown to April 10th will come soon enough. That is the day after the season is over and it is a foregone conclusion that Walton is a goner. The Lakers did not do him any favors with the roster, but Walton basically bailed the front office out with lackluster rotation patterns and in-game adjustments.
As for LeBron James.
He will most definitely pass Michael Jordan on the scoring list Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets and I’m guessing he will probably have a “nagging” injury that will keep him out when he doesn’t feel like playing.
He might as well shut it down in my opinion. Why?
Because he basically shut it down after the Lakers failed to get Anthony Davis. LeBron apologists will make excuses that the Lakers were in 4th place on Christmas Day before he got injured and derailed the season.
Nope.
Being one of the bottom four teams since January 19th took care of that. Bad losses to the Pelicans without Anthony Davis, to Memphis Grizzlies when LeBron showed the NBA world he can’t play defense, the Atlanta game and the Suns debacle. That was what put the Lakers out of their misery.
Let the man get his record and sit him down.
At least he’ll be happy.
