Los Angeles Lakers: 3 reasons they are a better destination than Clippers
By Robert Marvi
1. The Lakers have LeBron James
We can say many bad things about LeBron, especially in this moment with what has transpired this season, but there’s another thing we have to admit about him: he’s still probably the best player in the game. Just look at his stats since returning from his injury: 27.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and 9.9 assists a game on 49 percent shooting.
Even if LeBron isn’t the best player in the game anymore, no one is clearly better than him. Especially not James Harden, who despite having a phenomenal season, is even more of a choker under pressure than the self-proclaimed king. Giannis Antetokounmpo is my pick for league MVP, but he doesn’t know how to win yet.
Even though LeBron still is, and will always be at least somewhat shaky in crunch time, at least he knows how to win, and has proven he can come through under extreme pressure in the playoffs on those occasions when he is in the right frame of mind to do so.
I know many of you are now concerned that LeBron will be injury-prone from this point on, but is there any real evidence of that? Since returning from his groin injury, he has looked every bit as explosive as he was before he got hurt. Plus, he’ll have more than five months off this offseason for the first time since he wasn’t old enough to legally drink beer.
For the Clippers’ free agency experiment to work, they’ll have to sign two superstars, since they don’t have anyone who has even been an All Star, let alone a superstar like LeBron in his own right. Would someone like Kawhi Leonard be willing to sign with the Clippers without any assurances that anyone else at or near his caliber is coming with him this offseason as well?
