Los Angeles Lakers: Why they just won’t hire Tyronn Lue
By Ronald Agers
The dynamics and power struggle is holding the franchise hostage
Lake Show Life did a feature during the season discussing the potential power struggle going on within the organization. Sometimes it can be shocking how things turn out. Tyronn Lue getting hired would have placed the franchise in the right direction in this manner.
LeBron James would have had to produce a playoff team next year. No ifs, ands or buts. The Lakers would have given him the coach he asked for and put themselves in position to demand better results.
If you think about it, the Lakers would have placed all the pressure on LeBron James and if he does not come through, he would be the fall guy in this situation. This would apply in the media, the fanbase and it would not be a PR nightmare.
Now we have this…
The Los Angeles Lakers more than likely will not trade LeBron James this summer even though they have shown every sign that they should and deep down would prefer. As bad as things are in Lakers Nation, trading LeBron James would be worse. The Lakers are desperate enough thinking that LeBron’s presence will not bring a viable free agent this summer but a move would lead to worse results.
One reason why LeBron James can’t be traded is because there is no way the Lakers will get back equal value. No team will give up half their team along with draft picks to obtain an aging star with baggage going into his 17th year. Just not happening.
The second and most important reason is that the franchise will never live down the reputation of an inept front office trading away the NBA’s biggest star. LeBron James may have his baggage, but it will be hard for the Lakers to sell to free agents trading away a player that lost his Finals streak to a team that got rid of him in the one year he was injured.
Magic Johnson’s resignation is starting to be a bigger problem than LeBron or the Lakers could have envisioned about a month ago. Things have.
Jeanie Buss and the Lakers brass had better pick up the phone to restart negotiations with Ty Lue. This is not opinion but fact. The options are starting to fade and the current names that are starting to leak out are not what the Lakers fans are looking for…
