2. Go After The “Second Tier” Free Agents

While all eyes in free agency will be focused on Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant, the Lakers might want to take the sneaky approach and focus on trying to acquire some of the other marquee free agents this summer.

Kyrie Irving looks like a good bet to leave Boston. Jimmy Butler will most definitely pay a visit to numerous teams. And Kemba Walker has a chance at creating a legacy for himself, that people will actually start paying attention to.

Irving receives a significant amount of attention from the media and therefore will capture a lot of attention this summer. Walker and Butler, however, will almost be under the radar free agents that many teams may not be concentrating on, despite both being perennial All-Stars.

The two big fish free agents are Durant and Leonard, but Irving, Walker, and Butler all have considerable reasons to find new homes for next season. If the Lakers can accept not going after the big fish, they might have very little competition if any in adding one of the second-tier stars.
