Los Angeles Lakers: Are NBA Finals hurting chances of landing Anthony Davis
By Ronald Agers
Even with a third team, do the Lakers have a legitimate chance over the Knicks and the Nets?
David Grubb:
"The Pelicans are not in love with what the Knicks have to offer outside of their picks, and Griffin wants at least two players who can contribute immediately. The Nets are in an awkward position, because I can’t see a situation where a deal can be made without including D’Angelo Russell and some combination of Jarrett Allen, Caris Levert, and Joe Harris. So, in my opinion the Lakers have a chance as long as they don’t try to low ball the Pelicans again. The team has definite interest in multiple Lakers players. Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball’s health are concerns, so bringing in another team to make the deal would help the Lakers possibly not only land Davis, but help replenish the roster with another player or two from another organization."
David has a point. That first offer that the Lakers put out wasn’t ideal. But let’s take a look at the Nets part of the equation. The Nets have already made a trade with the Atlanta Hawks dealing Allen Crabbe for Taurean Prince which opens up cap space for Kyrie Irving. Irving, who most believe is gone from Boston might be a decent flip for Russell, who the Nets might not want to pay top dollar for. Plus the Nets have a special plan in mind that includes Anthony Davis…
However, if the Lakers can swing a deal with the Pelicans, the price will be steep. With Kevin Durant now out for at least a year, the Nets may go all in for Anthony Davis and pair him up with Kyrie Irving.
