How close was Griffin from pulling the plug?
David Grubb:
"Griffin was adamant earlier in the week that he wouldn’t put a timetable on a deal, but from all indications, it was expected that something would be announced after the NBA Finals. Five days away from the draft seems about right. New York and Brooklyn never put serious packages together, and Danny Ainge was scared off because of the prospect of losing Kyrie Irving and having nothing left on the roster. The Lakers had to act quickly before other teams could get into the mix. Griffin knew that and used it to the Pelicans’ advantage. At the end of the day, everyone gets what they wanted."
The Los Angeles Lakers will really get what they want if Kyrie Irving’s desire to play with Anthony Davis is stronger than his off the court relationship with LeBron James. It was a foregone conclusion that Irving was not coming to Los Angeles. But if these two were talking about forming a super team somewhere, they will not get a better chance for a championship immediately than in Tinsel Town.
